Preschool News Week of January 30-February 3

What We've Been Learning:

Whole Group Learning:

Read it Again: The Mitten.  The learning objectives for this story are to understand and use new words describing aspects of books (illustrator, cover, title page) and print (word, letter, spell, read, write), to understand and use words representing thinking processes (think, decide), to identify when two words share the first sound, and to produce a fictional story that has a setting and characters.

Creative Curriculum: Goldilocks and the Three Bears. We focused on identifying and sequencing the major events in the story as well as exploring new vocabulary words and discussing various comprehension questions.  We also will read A Pocket for Corduroy.  In this story, we will discuss the title and make predictions on what the story will be about.  We will also discuss pockets on our clothing and why they are important.

4 year old students: Please remember to return the Read it Again at Home books and baggies with activity cards upon reading the books at least three times with your students.  There are several who have not returned their first book that was sent home after Thanksgiving.  Upon returning, you will receive a new book to read with your child with activities shown to increase literacy skills.

Upcoming Dates:
Feb. 10 No Preschool
Feb. 14 Valentine's Parties
Feb. 20 No School

February snack calendar is posted on our blog.

Valentine Card Exchange:  We will be having a class Valentine's Party on Feb. 14. Students may bring cards to exchange with their classmates.  Please, please, please do not write names in the to: space, only write who it is from.  This will make it so much easier to hand out.

****Preschool is collecting cleaned, empty water bottles for an upcoming activity.  If you are able to donate, it would be appreciated.  I will need 42 water bottles.
