Preschool News Week of November 7-11

What We've Been Learning:

Whole Group Learning:

Topic of Study: We read the book About Pets.  We discussed the different pets people can have and different characteristics of each of these pets.  We graphed the different types of pets we have in our classroom.  The animal that we have the most are dogs, 2nd are cats, and there was a tie between rabbits and fish.
Miss Sue (see guest speaker below) left a book she wrote about her dog Kodi that we read.  There were pictures of Kodi as a puppy.  We learned that Kodi is a Schnoodle (a poodle and schnauzer mix).
RIA: We read the book, Rumble in the Jungle.  We focused on recalling the title of the story and how we read the text from left to right.  We also recalled major events from the story focusing on the words before and after. We segmented words into syllables and blended syllables into words (hipp-o-pot-a-mus).

Small Group Learning:

  • Guest speaker: Sue Lovik (retired Grantwood AEA early childhood consultant) came to visit and brought her dog Kodi.  She talked to us about caring for her pet and demonstrated the tricks Kodi knows.
  • RIA: we re-enacted and retold the story using animal face masks from the story and we sequenced the events of the story in order as well as drew animal sticks to determine what each character did in our story.  These processes help us be able to retell a story to include sequencing and including major events/details.
  • Name writing assessment for November.
  • Science: Blowing activity.  We graphed which items we were able to blow and which ones we were not.  We discussed physical properties which effected whether an object blew or not.
  • Jolly Phonics: Ee

Center Time Learning:

During our center time, we work with individual or small groups of students on areas that they may need a little practice on.  We currently are working with students on name writing, number recognition, and the letters and sounds we have learned so far in Jolly Phonics.  Keep practicing at home.  Together we can help our students become strong and confident learners.

Report cards will be sent home on Thursday.  You may keep the report card but please sign and return the envelope as we will use it again throughout the year.

Please remember to sign up for a conference if you have not already done so using the code that was provided to you a few weeks ago.  Please contact the office with any questions.
Parent-teacher conferences are Wednesday, November 16 from 8:00- 7:30 PM and Monday, November 21 from 2:00-7:30 PM for preschool.  Monday the 21st will run on an early out schedule for preschool.  AM class will be in session from 8:15-10:15 and the PM class will be in session from 11:15-1:05.  The PM class will need to bring a sack lunch.
