Preschool News Week of April 4-8

What we are learning:

Read it Again: Clifford for President
Print Knowledge: We are working on recognizing the difference between letters and words.

Vocabulary: We are working on understanding and using words for the names of unfamiliar actions (verbs).  Our target words are compete and pledge.  

Narrative:We are working on producing a fictional story that has a clear beginning, middle and end.

Phonological Awareness: We are working on producing a word starting with a specific first sound.  

Additional Children's Literature: A Tree is a Plant and  Seeds, Seeds, Seeds

Jolly Phonics Letter: Xx

Small Groups: Name Writing Assessment, The Foot Book You Tube video on standard measurement, Foot Measuring (we will trace our feet and measure objects in our room and record our data, and a Letter Sounds Matching Game.

Next Week:  Where's the Bean Bag Positional Word Game, Planting Seeds, Spring Number Puzzles 0-20 and Plant Life Cycle Sequencing.

Activity: I will be sending home an upper and lowercase letter matching activity for you to play with your student.  Our goal is all 4 year olds know at least 20 upper case letters and 20 lowercase letters by the end of 4 year old preschool.  Why stop at 20?  Let's learn all 52 letters and be ready for next year!

 We drew pictures of ourselves and placed them on an eye color chart to see how many we had of each eye color in our classroom.  We discussed concepts of most, least and even answered a few challenge questions about how many more one had than the other or how many more we would need for two eye colors to be the same.
