Preschool News Week of April 25-29

What we are learning:

Read it Again:  Red Leaf, Yellow Leaf
Print Knowledge: We are working on recognizing some common sight words including environmental print.

Vocabulary:Our target words are roots and sprouts.  

Narrative: We wrote a class story titled Buster's Favorite Tree.  We made sure to include a beginning, middle and end.

Phonological Awareness: We continue to work on producing a word that starts with a specific sound.

Additional Children's Literature:  From Acorn to Oak Tree and  Carrots Grow Underground

Jolly Phonics Letter: We will be reviewing all of our letters and letter sounds we have learned this year until the end of the school year.

New Centers:  
Dramatic Play:  Subway
Blocks:  Trains 
Sensory:  Colored Macaroni 
Discovery:  LED Light Table

Small Groups:  Rhyming Rockets Game, Number Squeeze Game, Plant Journal, and Pizza Story Problems. 

Reminder:
 I am sending home a May calendar this week.  Here are the important dates for May:
May 20: NO PRESCHOOL: Step Up Day for current 4 Year Old Students: Mr. Junge will be sending out more information regarding this day.  Essentially it is a day for our 4 year olds to spend some time in Kindergarten or Alternative Kindergarten depending upon what you registered for this spring.
May 24: LAST DAY OF PRESCHOOL
May 25: 4 Year Old Class Preschool Graduation: 6:30 PM Keystone Elementary Gym

Preschool News Week of April 18-22

What we are learning:

Read it Again:  Bunny Cakes
Print Knowledge: We are working on recognizing some common sight words including environmental print (stop sign, Target sign, McDonald's sign).

Vocabulary: We are using words to describe things and actions such as food items (crunchy, sweet, chewy, soft).

Narrative: We are creating a story as a group to include a problem that is solved.

Phonological Awareness:  We are working on producing words that start with a specific sound.

Additional Children's Literature:  There was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Frog and It's Earth Day

New Centers:  
Dramatic Play: Sandwich Shop
Blocks: Marble works
Sensory:  Kinetic Sand/Dinosaur bones
Art:  Eye dropper painting
Math Manipulatives:  Number Pegboards

Small groups:  Roll and Cover Spring Friends Dice Counting Addition Game, Plant Journal, Spring Measuring and Journal Writing.  

Next Week:  We will be working on a rhyming game, recording in our plant journals, playing number squeeze, and a math story problem activity.  

Reminder: Friday we will be participating in planting Earth Day tree seedlings during our small group times.
