Preschool News Week of Jan. 4-8

Welcome back!  It is great to see all of our preschool friends again!

What we are learning:

Read it Again:  Giggle, Giggle, Quack by Doreen Cronin
Print Knowledge: We are continuing to work on the learning the letters of the alphabet.  The letter G was highlighted in this story.

Vocabulary:  We are focusing on using adjectives to describe objects.  The target words for this lesson were numbers.  We played a game where we had to match a number to a card with that amount of animals on it and describe what was on the cards using the number words.

Narrative:  We are continuing to work on ordering the events in the story and making comparisons.  We discussed the clothing Farmer Brown wore in the beginning of the story and the clothing he had on in the ending and why he looked different?

Phonological Awareness:  We are working on identifying when two words share the same first sound.  We played a game where we had to identify pictures that started with the letter S and those that did not.

Additional Children's Literature:  Clifford's First Snow Day and A Winter's Nap

Math:  We are going to begin talking about measuring items and making comparisons in size.  We will discuss the terms: longer, shorter, and same.  We will be practicing measuring items using a variety of materials.

Jolly Phonics Letter: Oo

New Centers:
Dramatic Play: Space Station
Blocks: Foam Blocks
Sensory: Rice, Fish and Fishing Poles
Discovery: Planet Model
Art: Water painting

Next week:  We will begin working on writing numbers, drawing a picture and describing our drawing in words in our journals, and discussing planets.

Reminder:  All students need to bring snowpants, hats and gloves, winter coats, snow boots and shoes to be worn in the classroom.  We will be going outside in our snowy playground as long as the feel like temperature is above 10 degrees.  Thank you!!!  Please also remember to label all snow clothing.

Here are a few pictures from our learning so far this week:

Fabulous team work to build this fantastic structure!

We made pattern necklaces using fruit loops.
