What we've been learning:
Read it Again: The Recess Queen
Print Knowledge: We are working on the uppercase letters that start our friends' names. Many of our students can read each other's names and identify the letters they start with.
Vocabulary: We are learning the following new vocabulary words: howled, gaped, and romping. We are discussing situations where we may gape at something because we can hardly believe it, where we can romp and play and where we can't and situations when you may be mad and howl.
Narrative: We are identifying the beginning, middle and ending of the story.
Phonological Awareness: We are working on identifying when two words share the same first sound.
Additional Children's Literature: Elf on the Shelf and Clifford's First Christmas
Math: Christmas graphing activity: We rolled a Christmas dice and graphed how many times we rolled a certain picture to see which picture would win. We made comparisons between pictures, which one had the most, which one had the least, how many more did this picture have than that one, etc. I am including a picture of this activity.
Shapes: We are also continuing to work on our shape books which should be finished before Christmas break. Students have been working on cutting curved and straight lines to cut out these shapes. They have been decorating their shapes and gluing them into their books along with a poem about each shape.
Jolly Phonics Letter: Gg I just have to say that I am so impressed and proud of how quickly our preschoolers are learning their letters and letter sounds!
Please remember Parent Resource Night tomorrow night, Wednesday, Dec. 16 from 6:30-7:30 in the gym. If you are unable to attend, we will send home the games we have available with your student on Thursday.
