Preschool News: Week of Sept. 14-18

What we've been learning this week:  We have started our Read it Again series.  We read the book, Clifford Goes to Dog School and focused on the concepts of print knowledge (recognizing that print carries meaning), narrative (being able to identify and describe setting and characters), phonological awareness (this week we are focusing on rhyming words for the "og" family such as dog, frog), and vocabulary (we played games to act out our vocabulary words for this story which were walking, sitting, heeling, shaking and begging).  In our Incredible Flexible You Series, we started a new lesson this week with a book called The Group Plan.  We also completed some activities to demonstrate the concept of following the group plan,  There are informational letters that will be sent home on Thursday of this week explaining in further detail both Read it Again and the Incredible Flexible You lesson for the week.

Jolly Phonics Letter:  Our focus letter for this week is the Letter S.  Next week you will be receiving a Jolly Phonics action book so you are aware of the actions associated with each letter.

Songs:  Shake a Hand, Willaby Wallaby, Shake Your Sillies Out, Where is Thumbkin, Come on Let's Jump,  Little Monkeys, Hickety Pickety Bumblebee, This Old Man.

Name Recognition and Name Writing:  We are seeing awesome progress in our students being able to recognize their names in print and working on writing their names.  I would like to suggest that you teach your child to write their name with only the first letter as a capital letter and the rest lowercase.  When your child will go to Kindergarten, that will be the expectation, so it will be much easier to learn to write their name the right way instead of having to break a habit of writing in all capital letters.

Reminder:  Please remember to check your child's folder for information that is sent home.

Four Year Old Preschool Field Trip:  On Friday, Oct. 9 our four year olds will be going to Bloomsbury Farm.  If you haven't returned your field trip form, please do so, as I will need to let Bloomsbury Farm know how many students and parents will be in attendance.

Thank you for reading and have a fabulous rest of the week!
