What We've Been Learning:
Whole Group Learning:
Read it Again: Red Leaf Yellow Leaf. The learning objectives for this story are for students to recognize some common sight words including environmental print (we observed the word leaf and tree multiple times in our reading), to understand and use words for the names of unfamiliar objects (roots, sprouts), to produce a word starting with a specific first sound (we played a game where we had to try to think of a word that started with the same first sound as the card that was drawn), and to share feelings, ideas or experiences in a single story that is precise.
Creative Curriculum: We are beginning a study on TREES. We generated an impressive list of all of the things we currently know about trees. We enjoyed a heart warming story called Our Tree Named Steve. Upon the conclusion of this story, you could have heard a pin drop. It quickly became one of my new favorites! We learned about having a favorite tree and all of the activities and moments of our lives that revolve around trees in our lives. :) Another story we will read is Abiyoyo. We will explore many new vocabulary words and discuss the events of the story. We are very excited to be exploring this new study and welcome any contributions you may have on this topic.
Small Group Learning:
- More/Fewer Games: We discussed the Math concepts of more/fewer and made comparisons between groups of objects.
- Rhyming Bingo Game
- Beginning Sounds Match Up Game
- Journals: We drew a picture of our favorite tree and wrote words using our jolly phonics sounds to describe our drawing.
- Playdoh tree sculptures
- Jolly Phonics: Xx
Center Time Learning:
Our Flower Shop has opened! The students have enjoyed creating beautiful bouquets, tissue paper flowers, placing orders, making purchases, and watering and caring for the flowers.
